Whortleberries

We have a new member of the team ... Jo (who is a Phd in woodland ecology) looked us up and showed up today with a big tray of whortleberries ... what yummy fruit. They are like blueberries but with flavour and more colour !

Looking forward to what else she shows up with ... lots of wild mushrooms for the autumn and should have some interesting plants over the next couple of months for the restaurant !

Made Berry mess using them and used as a coulis with Beth's brownies today in the restaurant ... will try with a burnt cream or mousse tomorrow ...

  1. I remember whortleberrying as a child, great fun. We used to get them on Bunkum Hill and Cothelstone Hill, in the shadow of Hinkley Power Station!

  2. Oh my... I love living in London but suburban living, especially amidst such a BIG stretch of urban jungle, makes me envy the foraging locations of those in or nearer the countryside!

  3. Hearing lots of good things, Mat.
Bit of feedback from a person whose answer phone message was not returned, but could be early day mix-up. She's looking forward to it and I will blog soon about us all drooling over your sample menu in the next village.

  7. Thanks for such a lovely meal on saturday 25th July, my husband was a bit embarrassed to put the crab bib on but never the less he really enjoyed the spider crab! The food was super and the atmosphere was so relaxed we couldn't believe the time when we came to leave!! We had a lovely evening and will be coming back again soon. Sam and Matt
